'Incredibles 2' release date, plot: Pixar confirms film is their last sequel

Pixar

"The Incredibles 2" is currently scheduled to hit theaters on June 21, 2019, a year after the release of "Toy Story 4." However, in a report from Entertainment Weekly, Pixar president Jim Morris stated that "The Incredibles 2" will be the last of Pixar's sequels as they intend to focus solely on new, original ideas instead.

"Most studios jump on doing a sequel as soon as they have a successful film, but our business model is a filmmaker model, and we don't make a sequel unless the director of the original film has an idea that they like and are willing to go forward on," explained Morris. "Everything after 'Toy Story' and 'The Incredibles' is an original right now."

Morris continued to explain that in a way sequels were harder to make because audiences already had a strong experience with the original film and have a high expection of what a sequel should be. This is compared to an original film in which audiences don't know what they're getting and are likely to watch due to Pixar's reputation alone.

As stated by Screen Crush, this means that the two Pixar films scheduled for 2020 are not going to be sequels to films like "Ratatouille" and "Wall-E." The studios have yet to reveal what their next few original films will be about and who is going to direct and star in them.

In regards to "The Incredibles 2," director Brad Bird has made it a point to avoid spilling any spoilers. As stated in a report from Chats Sport Net, the only confirmed information is that the movie will focus primarily on the theme of family and not invest too much on the popularity of superhero films.

This would match the theme of the first film, which focused on the story of a family that just happened to have superpowers.

"The Incredibles 2" premieres on June 21, 2019.
