It often feels like God calls us, His followers, into purposes much bigger than ourselves. He does this because our purposes were never meant to be fulfilled on our own. They were meant to be done in partnership with Jesus Christ, who is the author and perfecter of our faith.

Ever felt like God called you into a minsitry, vocation or challenge that could compare to the size and intimidation of Mount Everest? That feeling of intimidation that you have may just be what many Bible champions felt, or even more intimidating.

Imagine what Moses must have felt when God called him to liberate a nation from a captor that considered him exiled, what Gideon must have felt when God said he would take on an army of tens of thousands with just three hundred soldiers, or what David must have felt when he came face to face with a nine-foot giant with just a slingshot and stones in hand.

God is a big thinker

God often calls us into big callings because He is a big God who thinks big. We often think that God's plan for us will only benefit us and a small group of people around us, but truth is God is always calling believers for greater levels of influence and impact.

In Isaiah 49:6, God told the nation of Israel, "It is too small a thing for you to be my servant to restore the tribes of Jacob and bring back those of Israel I have kept. I will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth." When the people of Israel were only looking to their economic and political freedom, God was calling them to be a nation that God would use to bring forth spiritual freedom to the whole world for all time.

We're not alone

God has big plans and He calls us to fulfil them with His power and His help. We can never do it on our own, but God never said that we have to. In fact, the plans we are called to are not really our plans but God's plans -- plans that He calls us to participate in and pitch into.

In 2 Corinthians 12:9, Jesus declares, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness."

When looking to great calling and great challenges, let us remember that we may definitely not be able do it on our own, but because we have Jesus with us all the way, we can come out as conquerors and we will finish the race that He has set out for us to run.  The key thing in all of it is: trust.
