As snow begins to settle across the East Coast, thousands of flights have been cancelled in major airports.

Heavy snow is expected from tonight to Wednesday morning, with blizzard-like conditions expected in some areas.

So far, over 3,200 flights have been cancelled across the U.S. including flights from New York City, Boston, and Washington D.C.

Over a third of flights flying in and out of LaGuardia, JFK, Newark, Philadelphia, Reagan National, Washington Dulles, and Logan airports have been cancelled.

Passengers travelling to JFK should allow extra travel time as the AirTrain has been suspended due to a fire. Free shuttle buses are being provided but will take much longer to get to terminals.

In addition to the cancellations, thousands of flights have been delayed.

JetBlue airlines cancelled nearly 30 percent of all its flights today and 21 percent of all flights for tomorrow.

A snow storm warning has been issued in across the Northeast, including New York City.

According to the National Weather Service, up to a foot of snow is expected. Heavy snowfall is expected through this evening until early morning Wednesday.

The New York City Sanitation Department has confirmed that snow plows and salt spreaders will be ready for the snow. Residents can check when their streets will be plowed here: maps.nyc.gov/snow.

No express subways will be in service after the evening rush hour, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. The Staten Island Ferry and the Long Island Rail Road are operating as normal as of now but could be subject to change as the snowfall becomes heavy.
