'Five Nights at Freddy's' movie' news, plot spoilers: 2017 release date proven false, plot rumors continue

"Five Nights at Freddy's" is one of the most popular horror games on PC and mobile devices right now, and according to a previous report by The Hollywood Reporter, it is now being adapted for the big screen. Very little information about the movie has been released thus far and the alleged 2017 release date has since been proven false.

According to a report by Ecumenical News, there was a Wikipedia entry stating that a "Five Nights at Freddy's" movie was scheduled for a 2017 release date. The Wikipedia page also listed the talents of John DiMaggio, Tom Kenny, Dee Bradley Baker, and Tara Strong. The report explains that it was a hoax and has since been taken down.

The only real information thus far is that Warner Bros. has acquired the rights to the film and that it will be produced by David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith from KatzSmith Productions and Roy Lee from Vertigo Entertainment. Scott Cawthon, the creator of the game series, has also been reported to be involved in the project.

While Cawthon has no experience writing big budget screenplays, "Five Nights at Freddy's" is his work and it goes without saying that he knows the complex story of the franchise more than anyone. Warner Bros. is still looking for a writer but it is expected that the writing team will work in tandem with Cawthon.

According to a report from Design Trend, there are several fan theories on what the film may be about. It might explore the origins of the murderous animatronics, the "Purple Guy" that set these murders in motion, or it could be an entirely new story that only takes the basic concept of the games: animatronics killing people in a child-oriented restaurant.

As fans wait for more news and an official release date, Cawthon recently released several teaser images for "Five Nights at Freddy's 4" which is also being dubbed as "The Final Chapter." Judging from the clues on the images, fans have speculated that this game will explore the "Bite of '87" incident often alluded to in the other games.
