'Final Fantasy VII Remake' release date news: launch set for Q3 2017?

Final Fantasy VII Remake Square-Enix

A report from Gamespot reveals that Square-Enix has released its official fiscal report for the year, revealing the list of games that the company has scheduled to release from this point on to March 2017. One game that is not included on this list is "Final Fantasy VII Remake," indicating it will launch much later, potentially in Q3 2017.

According to the report, "Final Fantasy XV" is listed for a Sept. 30 release and other games noted in the current fiscal year are "Rise of the Tomb Raider" and "Deus Ex: Mankind Divided." It is noted that all of these titles will release before the end of the year, with "Rise of the Tomb Raider" scheduled for a holiday release.

With "Final Fantasy VII Remake" not included, it is speculated by fans that Square-Enix may release the game by Q3 2017, potentially by September 2017, given that "Final Fantasy XV" is also launching in September. However, there is the likelihood that Square-Enix will give priority first to "Kingdom Hearts III."

Fans speculate that "Kingdom Hearts III" will be given priority given that it was announced first and has been under the public eye for at least three years. If this proves true then "Final Fantasy VII Remake" may be pushed back by another year, giving it a 2018 release.

"Final Fantasy VII Remake" will be split into an episodic format, with each game being as large as a full PS4 game. It was previously reported that the split will be akin to how the "Final Fantasy XIII" trilogy has been split into three titles. This means it will not just be one game will multiple episodes added on as small DLC packs.

The game's official trailer also showcases changes to combat and exploration, although full details regarding the game's new mechanics and what may have been changed or kept have yet to be revealed.
