'Fear the Walking Dead' season 2 spoilers: Strand's backstory

Victor Strand's true colors will be revealed in "Fear the Walking Dead" season 2.AMC

Mysterious millionaire Victor Strand (Colman Domingo) and his back story will be revealed when "Fear the Walking Dead" returns for its second season sometime in 2016.

During the finale of the freshman installment, viewers saw the survivors of the zombie holocaust, which includes Travis Manawa's (Cliff Curtis) dysfunctional family, taking refuge in Strand's mansion. From there, they planned to ride out the apocalypse by staying in the water via the man's luxury yacht. The spinoff of the AMC series "The Walking Dead" has already began filming earlier this month, with most of the shots being taken in Mexico.

Series creator Robert Kirkman told IGN back in October that there would be a lot of water action for season 2, as aside from Travis and Strand's group, others would also take to the water for survival. He also let slip that while the characters think there was a bigger chance of staying alive in the sea, they should not be so confident about it, as even the waters are not safe from the undead.

"There's definitely some zombie water action coming up. Just because it takes place on the boat doesn't mean they'll be on the boat all the time. It will be a seafaring adventure," he said.

In an interview with Access Hollywood, Curtis talked about what fans could expect for the upcoming installment. He especially emphasized how excited he was about Strand's involvement in his character's bid for survival. It has been reported earlier that Domingo would be a series regular for season 2, which means his character would play an important role in keeping Travis and his family alive.

"That's the funniest character on the show, right now... It feels like he's from a different world and I think entertainment-wise, I think that's fantastic, and I'm really, really looking forward to seeing how he develops," Curtis said.

AMC has not yet released a specific date for "Fear the Walking Dead" season 2, but it is expected to return mid-2016. In the meantime, fans can stay tune to its web series spinoff "Flight 462," which is being aired in short segments during commercial breaks of "The Walking Dead." It has been revealed earlier that one of its casts would be joining "Fear" for the upcoming installment.
