'Daredevil' season 2 spoilers update: Matt and Foggy no longer close friends?

Daredevil season 2Netflix

Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) and Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) were depicted as very close friends in "Daredevil" season 1, but according to a report from TV Guide, this may no longer be the case by the time season 2 rolls around.

According to "Daredevil" executive Doug Petrie, Foggy will be having issues now that he knows Matt is in fact the Daredevil, a vigilante fighting crime at night. For those who missed the crucial moment, Foggy learned about Matt's secret when he found his friend beaten and bloody in his home.

"Foggy loves Matt," Petrie explains. "He's very protective of him, but he's scared of him, and he's got to protect himself ultimately, it's like having a friend who's in the program. Like, 'I'll be with you, but there's a point when your behavior is un-endorsable. And for the good of both our mental healths, I'm getting out of here.'"

It is also stated that Foggy will not be upgrading any time soon to become Matt's official crime-fighting sidekick. Instead, Foggy will have a more dramatical role to play in relation to Matt Murdock's personal life and choices.

A report from Ecumenical News also points out that this falling out with Foggy will have a strong effect on Matt and his capability to go out and fight. This may become a bigger problem when Matt crosses paths with an even more violent vigilante, Frank Castle aka the Punisher (Jon Bernthal) and an assassin known as Elektra (Elodie Yung) come to town.

It is unclear at the moment if Foggy will even survive past season 2. While the character has a long-lasting relationship with Matt in the comics, the Netflix series may always change things up and kill the character in order to alter Matt's storyline into a direction the showrunner and writers intend to follow.

"Daredevil" season 2 premieres this March 18.
