Captain Patterson (guest star Brian White) will once again prove how difficult it is for the firefighters to like him in the upcoming episode of the NBC series "Chicago Fire."

In "Short and Fat," CarterMatt reports that Firehouse 51 is not happy that he will be temporarily substituting for Chief Boden (Eamonn Walker) as the head of the department. In the past, Patterson's high and mighty methods of subjugating the firefighters did not exactly endear him to them. The fact that they witness him bullying their chief last episode will heighten the tension more. Patterson questioned Boden's ability to manage the firehouse with the charges he was facing. This obviously did not go well with Boden, more so with his loyal supporters.

Severide (Taylor Kinney), most specifically, hates the captain's guts. He found him obnoxious and power-hungry. During the time he was planning to get his old position back, the older man made him go through the long process without even acknowledging everything he has done. With Boden momentarily suspended until he is cleared of all charges, Severide will try to help his old mentor by doing his own investigation on Serena (guest star Ilfenesh Hadera).

Last episode, Severide reached out to Jamie (guest star Rachel Nichols), Maddox's (guest star Mark Hengst) lawyer. Boden has singled out Maddox as the person behind Serena's accusation that was meant to destroy his reputation. This time, though, his findings will lead Officer Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) and Officer Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) to Lake Carlyle, where they attempt to locate new clues about the case. Will they find evidences that can exonerate Boden, or will they prove that he is guilty of all the things being charged against him?

Meanwhile, also in episode 9, Freddie (guest star Ralph Rodriguez) is being kept on a short leash by Hermann (David Eigenberg) and Otis (Yuri Sardarov). This time, they will assign him a job closer to home, where they can monitor him in peace. As for Jimmy (Steven R. McQueen) and Chili (Dora Madison), tension will rise between them as they become the focus of unwanted attention. Will they get over this hurdle quickly?

"Chicago Fire" airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. EST on NBC.
