Cecil Jay Roberts - a star is born!

Cecil Jay Robert is the UK’s most talked about Christian contemporary artist. We catch up with him from his very busy schedule to answer a few questions.

Marj: Hi Cecil, finally we meet.
Cecil: Yes finally how is it going?

Marj: Great thank you. Now Cecil, you haven’t just burst onto the Christian music scene have you?
Cecil: Oh no Marj I was part of a very successful Christian boy band called The Heritage but we ventured out to pursue our individual projects.

Marj: As is always the case.
Cecil: Yeah I suppose so, but it was still heartbreaking cos we had been together for so long we were like family.

Marj: Are you still in touch with the boys?
Cecil: Oh yes. We’re still very much a part of each other’s lives: and we’re very supportive of each other. We always stay in touch.

Marj: So now Cecil tell us about what’s going on with you now that you’ve gone solo.
Cecil: First of all I must say it’s been really daunting even though we parted several years ago. It’s like even when I’m performing I think to myself “where are my boys”, but you know what? Two are pastors and one is a music director so they're like “fly the flag bruv”. Anyway I’m getting all sloppy now aren’t I…..(pause).

Marj: Oh no I call it being in touch with your softer side.
Cecil: Oh well where were we? (He chuckles) Yes I remember we were talking about hmmmm

Marj: Yes you were (Cecil interrupts)
Cecil: Yes I was talking about how lonely it feels sometimes on stage but hey-ho I’m getting used to it. Look, it’s all good I’m loving every minute of it. Its amazing people still recognise me and I keep getting stopped so that’s good.

Marj: So would you say your music has changed or evolved?
Cecil: Yes I think more than ever I aim to minister more than just sing and that to me is quite big.

Marj: So tell us about your new album.
Cecil: Well my new album is called “From There to Here”

Marj: That’s interesting. Why did you choose this title?
Cecil: Where do I start? How long have you got? He chuckles. Anyway, the album I know it sounds like a bit of a cliché but it’s been about a journey. Oh and what a journey it’s been. He chuckles again.

Marj: What kind of a journey?
Cecil: Well I’d say spiritual and personal.

Marj: Would you say you’ve learnt anything?
Cecil: You can’t have been where I’ve been not to learn anything. Yes immensely

Marj: Well thanks Cecil it’s been great talking to you. I know you’re in a hurry to go and perform a gig so I hope we can do this again some time.
Cecil: Me too. Bless you.

Marj: Oh but before you go Cecil, I listened to your album and I think it’s phenomenal.
Cecil: OK. Thanks.

Marj: Where can people buy it?
Cecil: From any good Christian bookstore, the usual ITunes, Amazon, oh and of course my website.

Marj: Thanks Cecil. Enjoy the gig.
Cecil: Thanks Marj catch you later.
