Gearbox is currently busy with their "Battleborn" games and DLC content, but a few months ago, it was confirmed they will be working on "Borderlands 3" in due time. The game isn't likely to launch in the near future, but when it does, it is speculated to be set not on Pandora but on the planet Promethea.

According to a report from Mental Mars, the latest DLC for "Battleborn" has a small Easter egg hidden that may be a hint that the next "Borderlands" game is going to be set in Promethea. The report points out that there is graffiti on a wall behind one of the gates that prevent players from accessing restricted areas of the large ancient city.

The graffiti, when properly translated, reads "Promethea," one of the most important planets in "Borderlands" lore. The planet is where the Atlas Corporation found ancient technology that was used to improve weapons and starships. Given that the character, Roland, as per General Knoxx, served two tours in Promethea, it is hinted that the Crimson Lance has a strong military presence.

It is further stated that the planet sports a harsh environment. A message at the T-Bone Junction specifically tells the inhabitants of Pandora "at least you're not on Promethea." Given that Pandora is already a wasteland, Promethea is expected to be even worse, with violent weather changes like dust storms.

Fans speculate that "Borderlands 3" may be given a different title if the setting is indeed changed from Pandora to Promethea. A few months back, Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford explained, via Game Rant, that the game may have a different title to reflect changes, but nothing was sure until the game was in active development.

No official release date has been announced, but the game is expected to roll out in late 2017 or in 2018.
