As the credit crunch really starts to bite Christian Aid is highlighting ways people can continue to donate to charity without putting their hand in their pocket.

Recycling old mobile phones and ink cartridges is not only green but can raise vital funds for Christian Aid’s work with some of the world’s poorest communities. Both items can now be recycled using just one envelope, cutting down on packaging and benefiting the environment.

£4 for every mobile phone recycled and £1 for every ink cartridge will be donated to the charity. With an estimated 90 million phones hidden in drawers and cupboards across the UK that’s a lot of cash that could be helping some of the poorest communities tackle the effects of climate change, fight HIV and gain access to clean water.

Christian Aid has also launched its own directory enquiries number 118 708. Not only is it cheaper than other much advertised services, but 9p from every call will be donated to the charity.
