"Attack on Titan" season 2 is confirmed to premiere in 2016, as reported in Anime News Network, but a specific release date has yet to be announced.

The news of a second season had been a topic of discussion last year, but it seems that it took long for it to become a reality.

However, it was reported in iDigitalTimes that director Tetsurō Araki explained during a press conference for "Attack on Titan Part 1: Crimson Bow and Arrow" that several projects for AoT are scheduled for this year, which is why a return of the anime series may be delayed.

According to Latin Times, the season 2 of the series will give focus on the battle between the Titans and the 104th Trainees Squad. It will also feature the story of the king's corruption and how he will be overthrown by an uprising, which will be led by Erwin Smith.

There will also be new faces set to appear on the second season of "Attack on Titan" and they include Captain Kenny Ackerman, Rod Reiss, the Beast Titan, Uri Reiss and Frieda Reiss.

With the reports on the king's corruption being one of the main focuses of the series, it's expected that the story on the Reiss family will unfold.

While there's a need to wait for the series' return, there are other exciting news for AoT fans this year, including a two-part live-action movie.

According to reports, two live-action movies of AoT will arrive this year: the aforementioned "Crimson Bow and Arrow" and "Part 2: Wings of Freedom."

They will be released in Japan theaters on Aug. 1 and Sept. 19th, respectively.

However, these live-action films will not premiere on those same dates in the U.S., but rather this fall, according to Crunchyroll.

There are still several months before the second season of "Attack on Titan." In the meantime, the upcoming movies should be something to look forward to.
