Former Washington Redskins tight end Chris Cooley has been recently expressing his desire to make a comeback in the National Football League (NFL) since leaving after the 2012 season to pursue a broadcasting career and now the Arizona Cardinals are interested in signing him according to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Cooley said in his radio show about playing again, "I'll just say that I want to."

The two-time Pro Bowler has been reportedly working hard this offseason and in a recent interview with the Washington Post again expressed his intention to return to the NFL.

"If I went to camp, I could be anybody's third tight end, worst case. I have no doubt. Any team in the NFL, I could be their third tight end. There's not a question in my mind," Cooley told the newspaper about his planned return to the league.

Cooley also said in the interview that he is open to playing for any team besides the Redskins after stating before that he would want to only play for Washington because of his loyalty to the franchise.

The 33-year-old player was selected by the Redskins in the third-round of the 2003 NFL Draft and played nine seasons for the team.

Cooley played in a total of 117 regular season games for Washington having 429 receptions (franchise record for a tight end) for 4,711 yards with 33 touchdowns.

He made it to the playoffs with the Redskins in 2005 and 2007 playing three games registering 11 receptions for 46 yards but no touchdown.

If Cooley would sign with the Cardinals he will be joining tight ends Troy Niklas, Darren Fells, Ifeanyi Momah and Gerald Christian. 

According to ESPN,  Ted Bolser and Gannon Sinclair are also on the roster but they would likely not make the cut for the 2015 season. 

Cooley said he loves to play that is why he is planning a return and believes it will be fun this time.
