Asus ZenFone 2 to get Android 6.0 Marshmallow update by Q1 2016

Asus Pressroom

It has been more than a month since Google officially released its newest version of Android. The new platform, Android Marshmallow, has already been rolled out to most of the Nexus devices, while units from other tech manufacturers are currently building their own version for a carrier- and manufacturer-specific Android 6.0 update over the air.

The latest to join the growing list of lineups for the Android 6.0 update is Asus's ZenFone 2 lineup. According to speculations, while Asus has not specified any dates for the release, owners will most likely receive notification updates by the first quarter next year.

According to NeuroGadget, almost all of the iterations under the ZenFone 2 lineup will most likely get the Android update. However, since there are several model devices under the lineup, in addition to other Asus devices also expected to come out with an Android Marshmallow update, the ZenFone 2 lineup will most likely be updated to the newest platform within the earliest months of next year. Asus will supposedly prioritize the ZenFone 2 lineup, since some of the models like the Deluxe Special Edition, even the base model ZenFone 2, are part of the current flagships of the company.

Meanwhile, aside from the current Zenfone 2 lineups, the PadFone S was also listed to be coming out with an Android 6.0 update. Conspicuously absent from the list were last year's lineup, the ZenFone 4, 5, and 6, according to IBTimes.

However, although the three iterations are considered first-gen ZenFone devices, the more tech-savvy users can probably find a way to port Android 6.0 Marshmallow into the units, with either official ROM or unofficial but compatible ROMs. This was what some developers have done with the Galaxy S4. Samsung disapproved a Marshmallow update for the device, but developers have managed to build a compatible ROM running Android Marshmallow for the older flagship.
