An Ohio teenager is thanking God after she survived being hit by a car that just kept driving after it knocked her to the ground.

Elianna Rodriguez, 17, is still recovering from her injuries after being struck by the vehicle in Lorain on Friday night.

She was with walking along the street with friends when she describes a car driving erratically towards her before hitting her, Fox8Cleveland reports.

She says she tried to jump forward to avoid being hit by the driver but the car caught her on the side of her body.

"And, I remember I flipped over the car and I hit the concrete ... and I scraped this side body, my arm and my leg, my knee," she said.

Another person, Mercedes Vera, was coming home from work when she describes nearly being run into by the same vehicle before spotting Elianna lying injured on the ground.

"There was a car, going by so fast, with the headlights off and it almost hit me and when I come in closer I see the girl laying on the floor," she said.

It was Vera who dialled 911.  Elianna says the driver did "not even pause" after hitting her but simply drove on.

"He actually started to speed off," she said.

According to Fox8, the male driver is as yet unidentified but police suspect alcohol was a factor.

Witnesses describe the car as a red Honda Civic with a white hood and police are appealing to the public to find the person responsible for running Elianna down.

Elianna meanwhile knows she is lucky to have escaped with no more than some bad scrapes and bruises.

"It's a miracle from God," she said.
