Microsoft Surface Book 2 release date rumors: debut has possibly been pushed back to late 2017

The Microsoft Surface Book 2 has been rumored for some time to launch this coming October given that the previous entry, which is Microsoft's first official first-party laptop, launched in October 2015. But according to a report from Ecumenical News, it is possible that it has been delayed to spring or even summer of 2017.

According to the report, Microsoft is possibly waiting for the official launch of the Kaby Lake processors from Intel and their own Redstone 2 update for Windows 10 PC. This will guarantee consumers that they get all the latest updates right out of the box instead of having to undergo a long and lengthy update process right after buying the laptop.

Intel's Kaby Lake is rumored to require fewer components to achieve the same high-speed results of the current generation chips. Microsoft may be waiting to implement this high level of efficiency into their flagship product. It may also help drive up sales and allow Microsoft to continue implementing a steady price tag for the laptop.

Windows 10's update, called Redstone 2, is scheduled to launch in early 2017. However, the report states that the company might not launch the Surface Book 2 the moment the update is available and may wait as further bugs and issues are fixed. This will ensure consumers do not mistakenly criticize the Surface Book 2 when they encounter issues with Windows 10 and Redstone 2.

It is further explained that Microsoft might be launching all of their Surface products simultaneously, meaning the Surface Book 2 will launch along with the Surface Pro 5 and their next line up of smartphones.

Microsoft has yet to confirm if the Surface Book 2 is indeed going to be delayed as far back as Summer 2017 as the company may still launch it as early as this October. The company has yet to confirm or deny any of the rumors regarding their flagship laptop.
