Reuters

Democratic Senator Amy Klobuchar on Clinton:

"That's the Hillary I know—the friend who takes the call, the public servant who listens and acts, the mom who makes sure it gets done right. She has a spine of steel and a work ethic to match America's."

Clinton on faith:

"The most important commandment is to love the Lord with all your might and to love your neighbor as yourself, and that is what I think we are commanded by Christ to do, and there is so much more in the Bible about taking care of the poor, visiting the prisoners, taking in the stranger, creating opportunities for others to be lifted up, to find faith themselves that I think there are many different ways of exercising your faith."

Ted Cruz - politician

Reuters

Governor of Wisconsin Scott Walker on Cruz:

"Politicians in Washington don't like Ted Cruz's efforts to shake up the status quo. Many wish he'd just quietly go away. Instead, Ted has shown that he will not back down from any obstacle that stands in the way of more jobs, greater freedom and true security for the American people."

Cruz on faith:

Politicians have "a special obligation to avoid being a pharisee, to avoid ostentatiously wrapping yourself in your faith. Because I think in politics, it's too easy for that to become a crutch, for that to be politically useful," he told CBN.

Stephen Curry - basketball player

Reuters

Ballerina Misty Copeland on Curry:

"Many of our sports heroes are sold to us based on their superhuman skill level. But every so often we get to experience one who combines these superior physical gifts with humility and grace while also letting us into his life to share the journey to greatness with him."

Curry on faith:

"I do a little sign on the court every time I make a shot or a good pass and i pound my chest and point to the sky – it symbolizes that I have a heart for God. It's something that my mom and I came up with in college and I do it every time i step on the floor as a reminder of who I'm playing for."

Pope Francis - religious leader

Reuters

Vice President Joe Biden on Pope Francis:

"He's electrified the world because he embodies the basic tenets of Catholic social doctrine that also cut across all great faiths – everyone is entitled to be treated with dignity; we have an obligation to help the poor; we have responsibilities to one another and to our planet.

"And he embodies our collective obligation to give meaning to these universal principles, that faith is a gift revealed not just in what we believe but also in what we do together."

Francis on faith:

"This is me, a sinner on whom the Lord has turned his gaze. And this is what I said when they asked me if I would accept my election as pontiff. I am a sinner, but I trust in the infinite mercy and patience of our Lord Jesus Christ, and I accept in a spirit of penance."

Reuters

Formula One world champion Mario Andretti on Hamilton:

She challenges everyone to go the extra step to get it right. She has a deep understanding of the human condition, and she displays it with her eyes—the pain, the happiness, the love, the laughter."

Henson on faith

"Whenever I thought I was supposed to get something and it didn't fall through, I would just fall back to God and be like 'OK, well what else. Because whatever You've got must be better than this, and then it is, it always is," she told the Christian Post

Caitlyn Jenner - TV personality, retired Olympic decathlete

Reuters

Wayne Maines, father and transgender activist, on Jenner:

Caitlyn did know the consequences of coming out. Because no matter where you come from, how famous you might be or how much money you have, letting America see you in such a vulnerable way is daring and admirable—not self-serving.

Jenner on faith:

'I would sit in church and always wonder, "In God's eyes, how does he see me?' Maybe this is my cause in life."

John Kerry - politician

Reuters

Bono on Kerry:

The word diplomat retains its 19th century starched-collar gentility, but it's a bruiser's game today. Kerry, a lifelong hockey player, has shown he can take it....Blessed are the peacemakers.

Kerry on faith:

"The Scriptures say, what does it profit, my brother, if someone says he has faith but does not have works?,"When we look at what is happening in America today, where are the works of compassion?"

Reuters

Black Lives Matter activist Alicia Garza on Lamar:

"Far from creating "conscious rap," Kendrick Lamar has evolved a new genre of movement music that asserts no answers but raises hard questions and brings us together to take them on."

Lamar on faith:

"Lord God, I come to you a sinner, and I humbly repent for my sins. I believe that Jesus is Lord. I believe that you raised Him from the dead. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for saving me with your precious blood. In Jesus' name, Amen."

Minaj on faith:

"Ppl pray for riches. Remember to pray for wisdom," on Twitter on October 2.

"For God so loved the world, he gave his only begotten son; that whosoever believeth in him, shall not perish, but have everlasting life," tweeted Minaj (2011).

Reuters

Merkel on faith:

"I believe in God, and religion is also my constant companion, and has been for the whole of my life"

Barack Obama - politician

Reuters

Jennifer Pinckney, who survived the 2015 shooting in Charleston, SC, on Obama:

"President Obama and my husband were two God-fearing, charismatic black men dedicated to public service and to their wives and two daughters. They were both voices for the voiceless who got up with smiles when they got knocked down."

Obama on faith:

"I am a Christian. So, I have a deep faith. So I draw from the Christian faith... I believe that there are many paths to the same place, and that is a belief that there is a higher power, a belief that we are connected as a people. That there are values that transcend race or culture, that move us forward, and there's an obligation for all of us individually as well as collectively to take responsibility to make those values lived."

Paul Ryan - politician

Reuters

2012 Republican nominee for president, Mitt Romney on Ryan:

"With an eye single to the welfare of the country, he rose above politics, earning the respect of peers in both parties. His is a mind that is both creative and unrelenting; as such, he crafted budgets and policy and law that shaped a great deal of what good has come out of Washington."

Ryan on faith:

A person's faith is central to how they conduct themselves in public and in private. So to me, using my Catholic faith, we call it the social magisterium, which is how do you apply the doctrine of your teaching into your everyday life as a lay person?

Justin Trudeau - politician

Reuters

"In politics as in show business, there are three things you need to be successful: talent, discipline and luck. Trudeau clearly has the first two. I wish him luck. I believe he will be a force for good."

Trudeau on faith:

"For someone as rational and scientific and logical and rigorous as I am to accept the unknowable and to re-anchor myself in faith was really, really important to me. In 2003, he set up an emergency call center to help with the volume."

Zerai on faith:

"It is my duty and moral obligation as a priest to help these people. For me it's simple: Jesus said we must love one another as we love ourselves," he told NCR.
