'Under the Dome' season 3 spoilers: Producers vow to answer dome's mystery this season

CBS

With less than a month until the premiere episode of "Under the Dome" season 3 airs on CBS, the network released a series of photos that teases fans about what to expect when the mystery sci-fi drama returns.

Based on the pictures, the answers to the questions that have been baffling viewers since the series began in 2013 will finally be revealed. The photos noticeably show the citizens of Chester's Mill huddled together, but none of them finds comfort in each other as they face the dangers of the Dome.

"Under the Dome" executive producers Tim Schlattmann and Neal Baer talked about what is in store for the residents of Chester Mills in season 3. According to Baer, by the end of the upcoming season, viewers will finally discover the real reason why the dome suddenly appeared above the small town, and what its real intention is. The executive producers also said that all of the pending issues that surfaced in the past seasons will be addressed when the show returns next month.

"Why was there 25 years to pass before the dome came down? What was in play 25 years ago that set all this in motion? That's one of the biggies we're going to address," Schlattmann revealed in an interview with TV Line. "You'll see how these puzzle pieces form a puzzle that may be different from what you thought it would be."

There will also be big news for Barbie (Mike Vogel) in "Under the Dome" season 3 as the executive producers told Entertainment Weekly that he will become a father soon. However, they also mentioned that the child's mother will not be the first person that comes to mind. It means that Barbie's baby mama will not be Julia (Rachelle Lefevre).

"Under the Dome" season 3 will also feature two new characters, namely "ER's" Eriq La Salle who will portray the role of Hektor Martin, the unforgiving CEO of the electric company owned by Barbie's father, and Marg Helgenberger from "CSI," who will portray the role of anthropologist Christine Price. Price will reportedly serve as the driving force in the coming season.

"Under the Dome" season 3 will start airing June 25.
