When she was just a teenager, popular American evangelist Joel Osteen's wife Victoria recalled how she and her friends enjoyed sunbathing, even though there wasn't enough products available for sun protection back then.
They loved it because it made them look good. Similarly, when people bask in God's presence, they inevitably become good, too.
"We would work on our tans as much as we could. It didn't matter how hot it got, we would just lie still in the presence of the sun because we had a goal. Our time in the sun did something for us—it changed the way we looked!" she shared on her blog.
Victoria then compared sunbathing to basking in the presence of God, which she said improves people on a spiritual level. Although too much sunbathing might be detrimental to one's health, having too much of God has no negative side effects, she said.
"Spending time in His presence changes the way we look, but it also changes the way we act and the way we feel! His presence transforms us into His image. Best of all, there's no downside to getting too much [of God]," she wrote. "The more time you spend in His presence, the better it is for you—spirit, soul, and body!"
Victoria then urged Christians to be intentional about getting into His presence and set aside time to be with Him. No matter what distractions they face in life, they should be committed to make preparations, put some worship music on, and stay on track with spending time with God.
She finished her devotional by sharing the Bible verse Psalm 105:4. It says: "Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!"
