Three meaningful things Christian couples can do together in old age

Old age can be boring for some, but if lived with purpose, couples can make the most of their senior years.

In this article, we'll talk about three meaningful things Christians couples can do during their senior years. There are many things that can be done, but right now we'll only talk about a few.

Why seniors?

I've always believed that gray-haired Christian couples aren't just "old" people. They have gone through many experiences and possess wisdom that young men and women can benefit from learning.

Proverbs 20:29 says,

"The glory of young men is their strength, and the splendor of old men is their gray head."

While young ones possess vigor and natural physical strength and agility, old men and women possess a long life decorated with various victories and lessons from defeats. Thus, we must learn from them.

So now, I wish to speak to Christian couples in old age: there are many things you can do and impart to the next generation. To help you do these, I've listed a few things you can do:

1) Be a mentor to the young

This is something every single man and woman, as well as a young married couple, really needs to have: a God-fearing Christian couple guiding them and helping them as they walk through life.

Many single men and women walk through life not knowing where they're going. Many young couples, on the other hand, have troubles in their marriage relationship with no one to talk to or receive guidance from.

Older Christian couples can help.

As such, I would like to urge you, dear friends. Mentor younger Christians. Teach them about life and faith. Give to them what God has given you: lessons in life.

We all need it.

2) Engage in sharing the Gospel

Whoever said preaching is for the younger, more vigorous, and passionate ones is wrong. Every Christ-follower is mandated to preach the Gospel (see Mark 16:15), Christians in their old age included.

Dear fathers and mothers - and grandfathers and grandmothers - preach the Gospel. Share it to every person you can. Age is not a hindrance or a qualifier in preaching the Gospel and seeing miracles happen. Believing is the only qualification you need (see Mark 16:17-18).

3) Pray for everyone

Lastly, if ever you feel like it's going to be hard for you to go out and join missions trips, or perhaps too exhausting for you to mentor dozens of younger Christians, you can still choose to spend time in praying for everyone you can pray for.

A prophetess named Anna did this. She was of great age, but she spent all her days fasting and praying night and day, praying for the Messiah to come (see Luke 2:36-38).
