Viewers will get finally learn more about Randall's (Sterling K. Brown) wife outside her marriage this season. Susan Kelechi Watson, who plays Beth Pearson on the NBC drama, recently revealed that the later episodes would delve into her character's backstory and family.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, the actress admitted that she has always been curious about Beth's background. Thankfully, series creator Dan Fogelman told her that finding out more about her character is what "This Is Us" will do in season 2.
"We see her family, or parts of her family, so that's pretty cool," she told the publication. "I have heard talks of meeting her family and I know that she has sisters. Like three sisters and a mom and she's probably somewhere in the middle age-wise."
Beth has been in the show since the beginning. Although she does not get nearly enough screen time, the writers made sure that whenever she did, it would be a standout moment. This made her a fan-favorite and a scene-stealer. But, as mentioned earlier, there is nothing much known about her yet. Even the story of how she met Randall and how they ended up together in the show has not been detailed to date.
However, Kelechi Watson says that the show may explore that eventually. Apparently, "This Is Us" has an open-door policy where they can go back and forth anytime. Although it is still uncertain how far they will go back, she knows that the idea of telling Randall and Beth's love story has been tossed around.
"It's definitely a possibility," she teased, also admitting that she is excited about it.
Meanwhile, the upcoming fourth episode, titled "Still There," will show more of Randall and Beth's challenging next steps with their foster child, Deja (Lyric Ross). Fans will also get some face time with Rebecca's mother, portrayed by Elizabeth Perkins.
"This Is Us" season 2 episode 4 will air on Tuesday, Oct. 17, at 9 p.m. EDT on NBC.
