'The Legend of Zelda' for Wii U: The wait continues as the title's NX version is speculated to come out first

Nintendo

A new "The Legend of Zelda" game for the Wii U was revealed as far back as the 2013 E3. However, there is still no specific release date for the title. Now, it is being said that the Wii U version may be revealed even later than the NX version.

Master Herald reports that with Nintendo focusing on a new console launch, it will need to have titles ready for release along with the Nintendo NX. One of the titles being considered is a game from the "The Legend of Zelda" franchise. Since the series is one of the most popular ones, this is already expected. However, since a new franchise installment is already being fleshed out for the current-gen console, it is highly plausible that instead of bringing out a new title, the current "The Legend of Zelda" game for the Wii U will be ported as a cross-platform title for the Nintendo NX.

Speculations suggest that Nintendo may already be preparing to release the NX this year, possibly in late 2016. A timeline predicted by Forbes lays out a possible scenario for the releases and, with this, the NX version of "The Legend of Zelda" might come out first. It will likely be a launching title for Nintendo's new console and hence could be out by November.

The Wii U version of "The Legend of Zelda" could possibly come out a month after.

The industry follower stated that this is just one scenario, however. The two title versions may come out simultaneously in December, as a way for Nintendo to cover the bases for both consoles. Those who are not yet ready to upgrade to the Nintendo NX will have a chance to experience "The Legend of Zelda" for the Wii U, while NX fans could be among the first ones to witness a franchise favorite on Nintendo's newest system.
