The biggest lie we face today

The biggest lie we face today is the core of virtually every lie every single person believes today. That lie deceives us into thinking that the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross is insufficient, and that leads to fear.

Fear is one of the biggest roots of lying and bearing false witness. When we are afraid of rejection, we twist the truth and tell people we're something we're not so they will accept us. When we're afraid of failure, we lie about our sales reports so we don't miss a quota. When we're afraid that people might hurt us, we hurt them first by spreading lies about them so that people will trust us more.

All of this is based on the biggest lie: that God is not enough. The biggest lie is that God is not accepting enough to love us despite our failures, that God cannot provide for us, and that God will not protect us. All of these lies come from the biggest liar there is: Satan.

John 8:44b tells us "...When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies" (ESV). That's exactly what happens when we bear false witness. Satan wants you to believe that you cannot trust God, that God doesn't love you, that you aren't worth saving, and that you can't change.

When the serpent lied to Adam and Eve, telling them that they could be like God, what it was really trying to imply was that God was not enough—that the world needed another God, and Adam and Eve could be that God, even though they couldn't! That drove Adam and Eve to fear, thinking, "What if God really isn't enough?" But this fear was not just deception. It was also pointless and without basis. They had the garden of Eden, they had each other, and they had God's presence. They had everything they needed!

The pointless and baseless lie that God is not enough should not drive us to fear. 1 John 4:18 says, "There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love" (ESV).

It's time to stop listening to these lies and turn to the truth that is Jesus Christ. What is God saying to you? Are you listening to the fear that wants to drive you and the lies that limit you or to God's Word, that wants to prosper you and give you a hope and a future? It's time to stop listening to this big deception from the enemy and believe that in all seasons Jesus is and will always be more than enough for us.
