"Suicide Squad" is all set to launch in theaters this coming August and one of the main highlights of the film will be Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Speaking to Vanity Fair, the actress shed some light on who Harley Quinn is, what her relationship is to the Joker (Jared Leto) and how she manages to be a threatening villain with no super powers.

"She loves causing mayhem and destruction," the actress explained. "She's incredibly devoted to the Joker. They have a dysfunctional relationship, but she loves him anyway. She used to be a gymnast -- that's her skill set when fighting."

The trailer did showcase some of her gymnastic skills as there are clips of her dangling around her prison cell which is true to the character. Previous iterations of the character, from multiple cartoon shows to the comic books and video games, usually portray Harley Quinn as an agile fighter wielding a large hammer or baseball bat.

Her unique love-hate relationship with the Joker is also something taken from the source material and the trailers indicate that there will be flashbacks in the movie depicting how she met the Joker and how he twisted her mind and eventually cultivated her into becoming one of his most loyal followers.

According to a report from Collider, the only element of uncertainty is regarding how much of this relationship the movie might showcase. The report points out that there may be scenes where Harley Quinn might experience a near-fatal attack after she initially meets the Joker as his psychiatrist in Arkham Asylum and this is what transforms her.

It is unclear if she was a gymnast simply to maintain a healthy living while keeping a steady career as a psychiatrist or if she was an athlete first and psychiatrist second.

"Suicide Squad" opens in theaters on Aug. 5.
