The Sony Xperia Z4 Compact is one of the variants of the Xperia Z4 handset that is allegedly bound for release early next year. The Xperia Z4 Compact is the smaller and lower-specced version of Sony's flagship smartphone.

The latest Z4 Compact concept image was created by designer Wan Mal, who imagined the handset to sport a 4.8-inch HD display using Triluminous technology. According to Concept Phones, the imagined device weighs 132 grams, with a thickness of 8.6 mm. Under the hood, the device is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 805 SoC and Adreno 420 graphics chipset paired with 3 GB of RAM.

Other speculated features of the Sony Xperia Z4 Compact include: 32 GB of storage and a microSD slot of up to 128 GB for additional storage; Android 5.0 Lollipop OS; 20.7-megapixel back camera and 5-megapixel front facing camera; and 2800 mAh battery. The smartphone also reportedly boasts IP65/68, making the device water resistant and dustproof. It also has an Xperia LED notification system and front dual stereo speakers.

Sony has not confirmed whether or not it will release the Sony Xperia Z4 Compact, but it teased consumers with a short video of the flagship smartphone – the Xperia Z4. The video is entitled "Welcome to the New World" and it provides some hints on what could be under the hood of the handset.

The teaser video opens by showing a device with a thin profile that is suspected as the Sony Xperia Z4. It shows a dragon that hints the smartphone will be powered by the upcoming Snapdragon 810 SoC. If not, Sony will come with the current Snapdragon 805 chipset. A girl is also seen eating a Lollipop suggesting that the Xperia Z4 will run with the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop OS. The handset also includes an improved and more powerful camera.

Sony's video hints the imminent release of the Sony Xperia Z4 and its other variants. According to reports, the handset may be announced at CES 2015 kicking off on Jan. 6 in Las Vegas.
