Everybody's favorite blue speedster, "Sonic the Hedgehog," is set to grace the movie screens for an upcoming movie slated for a 2019 release.

Game powerhouse SEGA and movie industry big shot Paramount Pictures are teaming up to create the nostalgia-inducing film for fans of the franchise, which they say is on for a Nov. 15, 2019 outing.

It can be recalled that the first announcement, which involves the agile, spiky mammal, was made two years prior, where SEGA announced that a project involving Sonic is on the horizon.

Not long after that declaration, "Deadpool" helmer Tim Miller signed in on the project as an executive producer with Oscar-nominated newcomer Jeff Fowler, known for his work on "Gopher Broke," to direct the said film.

Initially, the game-to-movie adaptation was intended for a 2018 release, but SEGA decided to pack that date up and go for a window launch date of 2019.

SEGA confirmed that the movie will be a mix of live-action sequences and CGI animation. They have partnered with MARZA Animation Planet for the CGI work.

Aside from a confirmed release date and a named director, details about the feature film's plot and casting remain tightly sealed.

Haruki Satomi, SEGA Holdings chairman and chief executive officer, expressed his excitement and delight in being able to work with Paramount Pictures and MARZA Animation Planet for the upcoming film.

"I am very honored that our companies, SEGA and MARZA, have this incredible opportunity to partner with Paramount Pictures for this production, which will bring Sonic to the big screen for the first time."

Satomi also revealed that he is glad to be able to share another project that involves the iconic hedgehog and that he cannot wait to share more details about the project to eager fans.

"Since he was first introduced to the world 26 years ago, Sonic has continued to grow in popularity as part of our core strategy to focus on video games. In addition to video games, this provides SEGA with a fantastic opportunity to share Sonic with everyone and we can't wait to reveal more to eager audiences in the future."

In 2016, SEGA first announced that it will be partnering with Sony for the upcoming "Sonic the Hedgehog" movie project. But seeing as they are now in talks with Paramount Pictures, it is obvious that the intended team-up did not see the light of day.
