Some movie fans have started a social media campaign asking Disney to provide Elsa from "Frozen" with a girlfriend in its sequel. It all started with a tweet made by 17-year-old activist Alexis Isabel (@lexi4prez), who said, "I hope Disney makes Elsa a lesbian princess. Imagine how iconic that would be." She then added the hashtag #GiveElsaAGirlfriend.

Thousands of fans have joined in on the conversation since then and expressed their enthusiasm for the idea. The campaign got so big that it even caught the attention of singer and actress Idina Menzel, who voices Elsa in the "Frozen" franchise.

When ET asked Menzel what she thought about it, she replied, "I think it's great. Disney's just gotta contend with that. I'll let them figure that out."

"No matter what," Menzel adds, giving voice to Elsa "changed my life."

The social media furore to give Elsa a girlfriend still has not died down, with more and more people pledging their support for the idea. "I really like having a Disney Princess without a love interest. I like a Disney Princess with a girlfriend even more," someone writes.

Some fans also started the hashtag #GiveCaptainAmericaABoyfriend and teased that his relationship with childhood friend Bucky Barnes, also known as the Winter Soldier, is actually romantic.

On the flip side, some other fans have voiced their distaste for the idea of having Disney introduce lesbian characters.

"Don't #GiveElsaAGirlfriend. She's a young woman fine being single, with support from the people she loves, without the need of a relationship," one fan writes.

Another adds, "STOP #GiveElsaAGirlfriend and #GiveElsaABoyfriend. Children don't deserve this @Disney I believe the story will continue the right way."

Someone commented that the suggestion is a clear indication that society has lost its moral values. "#GiveElsaAGirlfriend is a horrible idea and ultimately, an indication of the bad direction our society has taken," the fan says.
