A sizeable portion of Iowa's Republican GOPs apparently agree with former Fox host and Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee's scathing opinion of Grammy Award-winning diva Beyonce, a Bloomberg Politics/Des Moines Register Iowa Poll revealed.

According to the poll, around 40% of the Iowa Republican voters agreed with Huckabee's criticisms of the singer. However, a significant 38% of those caucus goers were also critical of the former governor's comments and said that he "went too far." The remaining 22% are undecided about their stand on the issue.

Huckabee devoted a few passages of his book "God, Guns, Grits and Gravy" to express his opinion of former Destiny's Child singer, calling her a "mental poison" for today's generation.

Huckabee also criticised Beyonce's performance of her song "Drunk in Love" in the Grammy Awards with her husband Jay-Z. A Washington Post article revealed that the 2008 presidential candidate called Jay-Z a "pimp" and accused him of "exploiting his wife as a sex object." He wrote that Beyonce could be a talented dancer "without the explicit moves best left for the privacy of her bedroom."

While Beyonce has her share of detractors in Huckabee and the conservative Republican GOP voters in Iowa, she is still beloved at the St. John's United Methodist Church in Houston, Texas.

"She is an incredible human being, has an incredible heart and has been extremely helpful in our mission and our ministry here," Pastor Rudy said of Beyonce in a June 2014 interview with Houston-based KHOU News.

Pastor Rudy told KHOU News of Beyonce's various contributions to his ministry, one of which is her sponsorship of a $7 million apartment complex for 42 homeless individuals in Houston.

He also said that Beyonce has lent her support for the Houston Food Bank and the Miss A Meal Initiative run by his non-profit organisation, Bread of Life.

"She has a global platform and is doing some amazing work," Pastor Rudy added. "I'm glad she's a friend of mine."
