'Rainbow Six Siege' news: Ubisoft warns players against using hate speech in the game

A new ban system is in place for "Rainbow Six Siege."Ubisoft

French video game developer Ubisoft has announced that it will begin handing down temporary and permanent bans to players who have been found to use hate speech in the PC version of "Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege." Players can report others who have been using "toxic" language through a new reporting system.

Craig Robinson, a community developer for the game who posts on Reddit under the handle Its_Epi, posted the improved ban guidelines on the game's subreddit. According to the post, the length of a ban depends on the severity of the behavior. A temporary ban may last for two, seven, or 15 days, while a permanent ban is also possible. Robinson also stated that a section in the game's Code of Conduct details the kind of language that may result in a ban.

According to that section, "Any language or content deemed illegal, dangerous, threatening, abusive, obscene, vulgar, defamatory, hateful, racist, sexist, ethically offensive or constituting harassment is forbidden."

An automated reporting system, a recent addition to the game, can enable players to report any type of language detailed in the Code of Conduct. However, Robinson also implied in the comments of his Reddit post that the game's system may be able to detect foul language, but he also stated that player reports are "great for specific cases."

"We will be tracking the frequency at which language that violates the Code of Conduct is used by individual players, and apply the appropriate ban on a case-by-case basis," Robinson explained. He also said that though "Rainbow Six Siege" developers have always banned players who violate the Code of Conduct, the new system will help make them more efficient.

The customer support page for "Rainbow Six Siege" details how a player can go about making a report. An option called "Report Toxic Behavior" is available, which players can select even during a game. There is also an option to make a more detailed report, but that requires players to log into their online accounts.

However, these rules and guidelines are only for players on PC. This is because Sony and Microsoft have their own guidelines and codes of conduct for players on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
