Sony has announced a new major PlayStation 4 update 5.50, and anyone interested could sign up for beta testing to get a first look at all the changes, improvements, and new features coming to the gaming console.

‎Brian Dunn, senior product marketing manager of Sony Interactive Entertainment America, announced via the PlayStation blog that the company is employing the help of PS4 owners to test out the upcoming software update ahead of its launch.

A good news for Canadians, Sony is extending the beta test from North America to the Land of Maple, not just for this round but for all the beta tests to follow.

Anyone interested could sign up this form. It only asks three questions so it should take less than a minute. Note that a PS4 system with an internet connection and SEN account is required to register. Sony will not accept anyone younger than 18 years old.

Once a user signs up, though, there is no assurance that he or she will be chosen. Sony also did not give any qualification or criteria on how the company plans to choose the beta testers. However, anyone who signs up for this test will have an option to also be eligible for future beta tests.

Apart from the chance to get a first look of update 5.50, interesting freebies also await those who will be chosen. Sony reminded users that beta testers for version 5.50 received a preview of features like Family on PSN, friend list management, and message improvements, among others.

Those who have been chosen to join will receive an email with instructions on how to download the 5.50 beta version.

PS4 users can sign up from today until the beta kicks off sometime in February. Registration closes as soon as the beta opens. According to Sony, chosen users can still roll back to the previous system software anytime after downloading the beta.
