OAP murder and stabbing: Man arrested over Shipley attacks

A man has been arrested in connection with the murder of an OAP and the stabbing of a nine-year-old boy at a West Yorkshire skate park on Monday.

The boy sustained chest and arm injuries after he was stabbed at Carnegie Skate Park in Shipley on Monday afternoon. He is in a stable condition at Leeds General Infirmary.

The 26-year-old detained by police is also suspected of chasing an eight-year-old girl in her garden on Prospect Grove, Shipley.

Police responding to the incidents later discovered the body of Louisa Denby, 84, at her home in Prospect Mount, Shipley.

Det Supt Lisa Griffin told reporters it was her belief that the three incidents were linked.

"The nine-year-old boy was out playing and was returning home for a drink when he was approached by a male and with no prior warning and for no reason known to us at this time he was attacked with a knife - a single stab-wound causing him injuries to his chest and his arm," she said.

"Ten minutes after that attack an eight-year-old girl was chased through her garden at home [on Prospect Grove]. Nothing untoward happened to her.

"As the inquiries continued in the afternoon and evening yesterday, we were taken to an address on Prospect Mount where we discovered the body of an 84-year-old woman."

Three other local men aged 18, 24 and 29 are also being held in connection with the stabbing of the boy.
