With many phone companies releasing four-camera units in recent months, Nokia is rumored to be readying five cameras for its 2018 flagship phone.

According to a user from Chinese portal Baidu, the upcoming unit, which could be Nokia 9, will have seven holes -- five for cameras and two for LED flashes.

According to Slash Gear, the source is close to China's Foxconn, which is working with the now HMD-owned Nokia for future smartphones.

Based on previous rumors, however, Nokia 9 will sport four cameras, two in the front and two in the back. It is not sure yet whether another camera will be added to the unit or if there is another Nokia phone in the works for 2018.

Further reports state that Nokia will adapt the technology of its eight-lense OZO camera and fit it into a mobile device.
It is still unknown how the fifth camera will be used or where it would be located.

Some tech geeks believe it will be put on the rear, similar to the Windows Phone 8-powered Lumia 1020. This sports a rear circular camera module capable of capturing up to 41-megapixel images. The source said the upcoming Nokia sports a similar module, only with more lenses as well as dual-tone flash.

Apart from the five-lens breakthrough, the Nokia phone will also reportedly be powered by a top-end Snapdragon 845 chipset, the kind usually used for the latest high-power units.

The insider added that a unit has already been created for testing. Foxconn's job is to determine how it could be mass produced. Nokia and HMD hope to have the five-lens flagship phone distributed sometime in late 2018.

Nokia has yet to confirm or deny whether such a plan exists. However, fans may soon find out the truth in late February at MWC 2018, where Nokia is expected to reveal its future phone lineups.
