Music in the community

Singers are being invited to join a choir for a concert celebrating a community project's 15 successful years in Rhondda, Wales.

The concert is taking place in October to mark the 15th anniversary of Music in the Community, a project set up by Ynyshir parish priest, Father Paul Bigmore in 1998.

The initiative aims to bring music back into people's lives by supporting performances and concerts. It led to links being established between the parish of Ynyshir and Canterbury Cathedral.

The choir will sing anthems composed by Father Paul under the musical direction of Dr Andrew Wilson-Dickson.

The concert takes place at St Anne's Church, Ynyshir, on Sunday 20 October at 3pm and the choir will meet to rehearse twice before that and on the day.

Father Paul said, "This concert is a chance to celebrate the great musical tradition we have in churches and communities across South Wales and I hope experienced choristers will come and join us."
