With the expected release of the Microsoft Surface Pro 4, one wonders if Apple users will eventually shift to or at least try out the highly-touted laplet from Microsoft.

The upcoming device will come loaded with specs more powerful than that of the Surface Pro 3, which is reportedly coming out in 12-inch and 14-inch display variants.

As far as power is concerned, the Surface Pro 4 will bank on a quad core Intel Core i5 or i7 Skylake processor with 4GB RAM support. Storage can reportedly hold up to 1TB and accessories will include the keyboard that can convert the device into a laptop, and a surface pen. If rumors hold true, the Surface Pro 4 could be out by the end of this month, coinciding with the release of the Windows 10 OS.

The Macbook Air 2016 will likely be introduced this October though it will likely be available much later, specifically March 2016. The next MacBook Air will reportedly run on the same Skylake processors and will come in a thinner design.

To bring down the cost, there will likely be a compromise in the area of resolution. The display may be a tad lower than the original 2304x1440 pixel resolution. Aside from that, the MacBook Air will likely include Apple's patented Retina display, a single USB 3.0 port and HDMI and VGA capabilities.

Though it seems like a hard choice to make, buyers of the Surface Pro 4 may be required to buy the keyboard accessory separately, and this could mean spending up to $2,000.

On the other hand, the MacBook Air will come with the keyboard included as has always been the case. Though the price is likely to be high, it is also likely to be slightly cheaper than the Surface Pro 4.

In the end, it could all boil down to what a customer is really looking for -- a laptop, a tablet or a bit of both. If it boils down to price, the MacBook Air should be a wiser choice, though potential buyers may have to wait a bit longer since it will likely be out by the first quarter of 2016 at the earliest.
