Since the dawn of history, people have always been curious about what happens after death. This is exactly the question that the upcoming medical drama "Proof" will explore when it premieres on June 16 on TNT.

The show stars Jennifer Beals as Dr. Carolyn "Cat" Tyler, a no-nonsense cardiothoracic surgeon who does not believe in supernatural powers. However, when she almost drowned to death during a medical relief mission in Japan, Cat began to experience otherworldly visions concerning Will (Jared Ager-Foster), her teenage son who died a year ago following an automobile accident. She also began seeing a figure wearing a green scarf.

Beals has nothing but praises for "Proof" since it tackles paranormal phenomena backed by scientific facts. "It was important to me to hold onto the scientific point of view," she told the Los Angeles Times. "I've never worked on a TV show that's been this exciting for me."

The actress said she believes "there is something" about life after death but stressed that it is more important to focus on "the values by which people live."

Her co-star in the show is Matthew Modine who plays Ivan Turing, a wealthy tech inventor who is dying of cancer. Ivan shares Cat's disbelief with regards to supernatural matters but at the same time admits that he is obsessed with the after-death mystery. This prompted him to ask Cat to do a scientific research on the matter. Should Cat prove successful with her research, Ivan promised to give her complete control of his $10 billion estate.

"He really wants to know either way; if there's something or if there's nothing," Modine said about his character. "He's a very pragmatic person," he added.

As for himself, the actor said he is likewise curious about the afterlife, too. "How wonderful to find a role that can parallel your own life," he said.
