LG G Pro 3 release date: Android phablet to launch before end-2015

After the release of the LG G Pro 2 Android smartphone phablet by LG Electronics in April last year, the South Korean multinational company is already expected to launch a new successor, the LG G Pro 3, sometime before the end of this year, according to reports.

GSM Arena reports that LG had put the development of the LG G Pro 3 on hold earlier this year, as it was focusing on and preparing for the launch of the successful LG G4 handset.

Since the LG G4 smartphone phablet has already been released, details of the LG G Pro 3 have just emerged, according to reports, confirming that the new phone was now in the works and giving a glimpse of the specs and features.

According to the new leaks, the LG G Pro 3 is expected to sport a large 6 inch Quad HD display screen with a 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution. It will have a very powerful 20.7 mega pixel camera on the back and a sharp 8 mega pixel camera on the front.

Rumors added that the new LG G Pro 3 might come with a combined fingerprint and iris scanning technologies. Earlier reports have said LG has been working with South-Korean based biometrics company Irience on the development of the iris scanner technology. LG's new G5 handset is also expected to come with an iris scanner.

In addition, the LG G Pro 3 is expected to pack Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 SoC under the hood, alongside 4 GB worth of RAM and an expandable 32 GB internal memory storage. It might also run on the new Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system.

Rumors also say the new LG G Pro 3 will cost about $790. The exact date for the release of the new phone is unclear, but the rumors point to the end of the year.

The LG G series is a line of high-end Android devices produced by LG Electronics. The "G" designation was first introduced in 2012 as a branch of the LG Optimus series for flagship devices, but LG announced in July 2013 that the "Optimus" name would be discontinued for future flagships in favor of maintaining "G" and "Vu" as distinct brands. The first purely G-branded phone, the LG G2, was unveiled in August 2013.
