Fans are awaiting  the unveiling of the new iPads – the fifth-generation iPad and iPad Mini 2 - after yesterday's launch of the iOS 7 mobile operating system software.

The iPad Mini 2 is expected to launch at an Apple media event on October 15, 2013. The date has not been officially confirmed by Apple, but rumors are pointing to a "special event" on the specified date.

Last year, Apple launched its first iPad Mini device and its fourth-generation iPad at a similar event in October so it is likely that the company will follow tradition and do the same this year.

For the first time since 2007, Apple is offering its smartphones in different colors besides the traditional white and black – green, blue, yellow, pink and gold. This year, the iPhone 5S is being offered in almost black Space Gray, almost white Silver, and the new gold color.

So it is no surprise that rumors are swirling that Apple will be offering its iPad Mini in a new Space Gray color as well. The new color reflects Apple's new design with anodized aluminum. The new iPad Mini 2 and iPad 5 are expected to launch with the A7 chip, which powers the iPhone 5S. It is also expected to pack the all new M7 chip, a motion co-processor that is also featured in the iPhone 5S. Both tablets are also expected to feature a retina display.

The new tablets will also launch with the all new iOS 7, which was released to the public on September 18, 2013. Users have been noting issues downloading the new software on the launch date. The iOS 7 will take a bit of getting used to as Apple has revamped its operating system with a new look, new control center and apps.
