How to know the career God wants you to have?

Choosing a specific career isn't an easy decision for many people. Sometimes, people go for a job that has nothing to do with the degree they have. Even after graduating from college, people still find themselves at a crossroad. And even after working a couple of jobs already, there are still people who cannot pinpoint the right career for them. Did you ever wonder what career God wants you to have? Maybe God has been pointing you in the right direction, but you're just not seeing it? Here are important tips to find the right job for you.

Do you have the Kingdom vision?

Many people look for a job because of the money. Let's face it, everyone needs money to pay expenses. However, staying in a job with money as a motivational factor can only get you so far. This is why many people choose to change careers even if they're already earning much – they don't like what they do.

If you're a Christian, the moment you start job hunting, you'll immediately be thinking about the Kingdom vision in your job. For instance, becoming a teacher gives you the chance to teach kids about loving and helping people. Becoming a writer allows you to use your words to reach out to many people. Basically, your job must be an avenue where you can do good works.

Money isn't the objective

As I've mentioned earlier, money isn't good motivation. For one, it's materialistic in nature. Second, it makes you lose focus of what truly matters. Remember, in Matthew 6:33, the verse said that you must always seek the Kingdom of God and His righteousness first and all the other things will be given to you. For those who have weak faith, they can't believe that God will provide for everything they need, which is why they turn to worshiping money to meet their daily needs. Then again, even if you have so much money, but your purpose is lacking, your career won't matter to you in the end.

You must do what you love

Hearing people say that you must do what you love sounds a bit cliché already. However, this statement cannot be any more true. Yes, it is true that we must act according to God's will, but this doesn't mean that we should just keep doing things that we think glorifies him.

If it is really God's will for you, then He will give you the opportunity to do what you truly love. It's simply because He wants you to find genuine happiness and fulfilment in what you do. God's will is not selfish. The Lord wants you to be able to do what you love and still work towards His Kingdom. There's no doubt that the Lord also knows that you will be more productive and effective if you love your job.

Many of you might think that your career or job doesn't matter as long as you're a Christian who follows God's instructions every day. What you might fail to realize is that you have a bigger purpose in life than sitting behind a desk, crunching numbers the whole day, and then going home without a smile on your face. And God wants you to fulfil that purpose. Before you apply for a job, think about the factors above. If you already have a job and you think that it isn't where your heart is, then maybe it's time to have a talk with God and ask for guidance.
