How can I be a better man? 3 tips how

Real men love God and follow Him.Pixabay

Every man desires to become better in his craft. Artists desire to become better in their art, musicians practice to become the best musician that they can be, and athletes train to become the best they can be for the sport they are playing.

We Christian men, on the other hand, should desire to be the best Christian men that we can be. We ought to be as Christ-like as possible, as Godly as can be, and as pleasing to the Lord as possible. Colossians 3:17 tells us,

"And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him."

How to be a better man

Here are a few things that every Christian man can do to become a better man, according to the Bible.

1) Repent of all sin

Any man who wants to become better and more Christ-like will do well to confess and repent of any known sin. No man has ever improved by hiding sin and cherishing it. Isaiah 59:2 tells us,

"But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear."

The solution? Repentance. Acts 3:19 tells us,

"Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord."

2) Submit to God

After repenting of sin and receiving God's forgiveness and refreshing, the next thing to do is to submit to God. We can't ask God for forgiveness and still do our own thing, then expect to be more Christ-like. That's not the way it's done.

Anybody who wants to be like Christ should follow Christ. Following Christ will require us to make Him our Lord, whom we will obey. He Himself said in Matthew 16:24,

"If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me."

What does following Christ look like? He tells us in John 14:15,

"If you love Me, keep My commandments."

3) Strive to live a holy life

Lastly, any Christian man who desires to become better and more Christ-like will do well to imitate Christ. The apostle Paul knew this so well, that is why he wrote:

"Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ." (1 Corinthians 11:1)

But how do we imitate Christ? What do we do? Colossians 3:12-17 tells us,

"Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him."
