Holy Saturday – The Christian Today contemporary Spotify playlist

Holy Saturday is the day of silence. Jesus is in the tomb. Hope is gone and the merciless machine of the Roman Empire is getting back to business as usual. Being a day of silence and darkness might make a playlist seem like a bad idea. But we've done playlists for Maundy Thursday and Good Friday and there is plenty of music that sums up the despairing mood of the this day.

On the first Holy Saturday, the disciples must have been despairing. Their hope had not only gone, but they must have been beginning to consider that they'd just wasted the last three years of their lives on a fraud. After all the excitement, the hope and promise of Jesus' ministry, the stone was across the doorway to the tomb and the adventure was over.

Here is the third of four Passion playlists from Christian Today. It features Christian and secular artists, including Laura Marling, Lucinda Williams and Sam Cooke. On Easter Sunday, we will post a similar playlist, inspired by the biblical stories of that day. But for now, embrace the darkness and despair of Holy Saturday.
