GoPro Hero 5 release date, specs rumors: 8k res, 60fps videos, 3D capture and more

GoPro Hero 4, the most recent iteration of the GoPro camerasGoPro

The GoPro Hero 5 has reportedly been delayed and it is expected to come out no earlier than October this year, although further delays may push the product's release to December or even to an early Q1 2016 release. As pointed out by ValueWalk, the delays have occured due to the company's insistence on improving on several features and specs.

In ValueWalk's post, the GoPro Hero 5 may include a new A10 chip that will allow the camera to record 4k (3840 x 2160) videos at a frame rate of 60 frames per second. This will be a vast improvement over the GoPro Hero 4, which recorded 4k videos at a slightly choppier 30 fps rate.

If it does include this feature, then it will become the most powerful videographic camera in the market. This would put the GoPro Hero 5 well above its competitors, especially now that 4k capabilities are becoming a market standard.

It is also rumored that the device will have a dual-lens design, allowing it to capture true 3D videos. This would mark the first time that the GoPro devices would allow 3D capture. How this pairs together with the device's rumored 8k resolution and processing speed have yet to be addressed.

Further improvements include better battery life with a 2800 mAh battery, Wi-Fi compatibility, HDMI ports, Bluetooth 4.0 compatibility, and waterproofing technology that can withstand a depth of 60 meters.

The extended battery life would give the GoPro Hero 5 a 150-percent improvement over the GoPro Hero 4. This would, in essence, allow the GoPro Hero 5 to record more than 2 hours of video on a single charge.

Addition of Bluetooth 4.0 compatibility would also boost faster upload speeds. With the GoPro devices now featuring live streaming and uploading features, this improvement ensures that the next device would make the sharing experience easier and quicker than before.

ValueWalk estimates that the selling price for the GoPro Hero 5 will sit between $400 and $500, given that the GoPro Hero 4 costs an average of $500 around the market.
