Artists use their own distinctive tools to create masterpieces, and for Italian land artist Dario Gambarin, his tool of choice was huge—a tractor!

Gambarin created a 24,000-square-meter image of Jesus Christ using a tractor and a rotating harrow and a plough in a field near Castagnaro, in the province of Verona, Italy, according to Sky News. To bring to life the eyes of the Saviour, Gambarin used white spray paint and nylon cloth.

He entitled his masterpiece "Suffering Christ," expressing hope that it would highlight the "difficult moment faced by humanity."

Gambarin also timed his artwork to coincide with the Catholic Church's Jubilee of Mercy event, which begins next Tuesday.

Gambarin laboured for several days to complete the portrait of Christ in Verona. However, regular passersby will not be able to appreciate it since it can only be fully appreciated when viewed from the sky.

This was not the first time that Gambarin made a field portrait. His past projects included depictions of other great men in politics and religion, namely Nelson Mandela, Barack Obama, John F. Kennedy, Fidel Castro, and Pope Benedict XVI.

Gambarin has also made land art featuring symbols of peace and justice. One time, he even made a portrait of popular cartoon character Mickey Mouse and soccer player Mario Balotelli.

When asked why he prefers to create art in land, Gambarin explained that people have their own artistic expressions. "Art is an adventure of the spirit, of thought and of creative imagination. Only those who have the courage to face this journey with free will, taking the risk of his own integrity, can explore these multifaceted reality," he said.

There are several other artists who specialise in land art. They include Austrian painter and sculptor Manfred "KILI" Kielnhofer, who created a rose in a field in Enns, Austria back in 2005.
