Ghanaian Chronicle Give Prayer for Nation

I also tell you this: If two of you agree down here on earth concerning anything you ask, my Father in heaven will do it for you. For where two or three gather together because they are mine, I am there among them- Matt. 18:19-20. (New Living Bible)

Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ teaches us that in addition to private prayer that we make to our heavenly Father in our inner chamber, there is great need for public united prayer. His promise is unequivocal: prayer of agreement is always heard and answered by the father because He Jesus, our Mediator is right in the midst of any two or three believers who agree to pray about any particular topic.

Tomorrow, Ghana will attain the age of 47. In these forty-seven years the people of this nation have experienced many things, not all of them pleasant. But whatever the situation, we need to raise our hands in prayer to God, who has been with us and is still with us.

Let us thank God with united hearts for His mercy, kindness and patience with us. Let us also petition Him for a better life. A life in which each of us is able to give of their best because of the conducive atmosphere of real freedom and justice.

Prayer of adoration

He is most worthy of praise. He is to be revered above all. Gods' Honor and majesty surround Him; strength and beauty are in His sanctuary. Come; let us sing to the Lord! Let us give a joyous shout to the rock of our salvation! Let us come before Him with thanksgiving. Let us sing Him psalms of praise. For the Lord is a great God the great King above all gods.

He owns the depths of the earth and even the mightiest mountains are His. The sea belongs to Him, for He made it. His hands formed the dry land, too. Come let us worship and bow down. Let us kneel before the Lord and our maker, for He is our God. We are the people; He watches over. Worship the LORD in all His holy splendor. Give to the Lord the glory He deserves.

Prayer of Confession

When we consider the potential wealth of this land and the human resources that God has endowed this nation with and we measure these resources against the level of development of the nation and the well being of her people, we realize how much we have failed as a nation. The reasons are not hard to find. It is because individually and collectively, we have sought to please ourselves rather than pleasing God and thereby seeking the interest of others.

Let us therefore humbly and sincerely confess our personal sins and those of the nation in the full assurance that God will fulfill His promise to us by forgiving us our sins and cleansing us from all unrighteousness (1John1:9)

Give me again the joy that comes from your salvation, and make me willing to obey you. Then I will teach sinners your command and they will turn back to you.

Prayer for Rulers and Leaders

Through the first letter of Paul to Timothy we realize how important it is for us to pray for our leaders. Some of us find it difficult to do because of our own prejudices. However, we are not supposed to live by feelings and emotions but by faith in our God who Himself keeps His promises.

Leaders set the pace in most things and so their nations usually reflect on the lives of the people. Corrupt leaders breed corrupt citizens; idolatrous leaders spawn an idolatrous nation; wicked leaders bring forth a malevolent people. Power is sweet but very corrupt. We must bear up our leaders in prayer.

* Pray that the President His Vice, members of his Cabinet and other officials will continue to see themselves as servant of the people, delegated by God to rule with justice and mercy. Pray that Parliament will consider its work as a sacred duty. God is the ultimate Lawgiver and it is a real privilege to have the opportunity to make laws for a nation. Pray for wisdom, discernment and true humility. Pray that Judges will see themselves as representing God, the Eternal Judge so that they will administer good justice to all. Pray that the law enforcement agencies will work fearlessly, ensuring that no one is treated above the law.

Pray for the Youth

Pray for our youth. They are our future farmers, teachers, entrepreneurs, presidents, Parliamentarians, Doctors, Opinion Leaders, etc. They are the ones to continue the work we have started. Pray that God will fill their minds and hearts with solution our economic and social problems. Pray also that they learn to submit to authority so that they can boldly exercise authority in the future. Pray also for parents to live lives worthy of emulation.

God bless our homeland Ghana.
