Dennis Rodman arrested news update: Former basketball star suspected of DUI

Police reports reveal that former NBA star Dennis Rodman was arrested due to suspected driving under the influence (DUI) in Southern California. Lt. Rachel Johnson of Newport Beach Police said that Rodman was stopped by officers on Saturday night at around 11 due to a traffic violation.

According to Johnson, Rodman failed a field sobriety test. He also submitted to a breathalyzer wherein he blew more than the .08 legal limit. The 56-year-old basketball player was cooperative with the investigation of the officers, according to reports.

He was in custody for seven hours and was then released from jail on Saturday morning. As of this writing, Rodman has not commented about his arrest yet. However, many assume that the basketball star is once again struggling in his combat with alcohol addiction.

This is the second time that Rodman is arrested for DUI. Back on Dec. 22, 1999, he was arrested for drunken driving and for driving without a license. According to reports, he was fined $2,000, and he also underwent a three-month alcohol treatment program.

The former Chicago Balls player struggled with sobriety for many years. In order to fight with this addiction, he appeared on the reality series "Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew" and "Sober House."

Rodman is known for his exceptional rebounding skills as well as for his off-court antics. He played in the NBA for 14 seasons. He won a total of five championships, two with the Detroit Pistons and three with the Chicago Bulls. He also received the Basketball Hall of Fame recognition in 2011.

Apart from alcohol problems, Rodman is also involved in a controversy with his visits to North Korea where he personally meets Kim Jong Un. Rodman, in a previous statement, even said that they are "friends for life." There are no details, however, on why Rodman has been frequenting the country.
