The pastor of Cornerstone Church in Buena Vista, Colorado, has reportedly been left "heartbroken" after his wife was tragically killed in a car accident last Friday.

Charlie Stoumbaugh and Miranda Schumann, 26, were married just eight months ago.

A report by 9 News said the SUV they were travelling in flipped and rolled over several times on Interstate 70 near Copper Mountain on Friday morning.

The MountainMail.com said Schumann was declared dead at the scene. It reports that Stoumbaugh was driving the car and that it was carrying four other passengers, three children aged 15,14 and 9, and Robert Schumann, 61, all of whom survived along with Stoumbaugh.

They were reportedly on their way for a family day out at Yellowstone National Park when tragedy struck.  It is unclear at present what caused the car to crash.

Locals have been paying tribute to Schumann.

Leslie Quilico said on 9 News: "Miranda was a true light.  A smile on her face makes the whole room smile.

"[Charlie" loved that woman with all his heart.  He's heartbroken.  He's Charlie.  People who know Charlie know how strong he is.  But he lost his wife."

Quilico added: "We trust that God is good, but we mourn right now."
