Angels have been described in the Bible including the captivating roles they play in the Christmas story. But still, some people believe angels are just myths and unreal since they don't see winged creatures around them taking off on rescue missions.

Steve Trexler, a minister and a writer for Kenneth Hagin Ministries in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, contends though that angels are not only real but they're also living among people on earth, "protecting us, serving us and helping us through this life."

Writing for Charisma News, Trexler recalled a personal encounter with an angel.

He said when he was in his 20s, he and his wife traveled to Seattle to attend the service at Christian Faith Center. On the way back from church, they decided to drive up to Mount St. Helens to see the destruction from the volcanic eruption of 1980.

"As we hiked up to the highest viewing point, I noticed a man who had several cameras. He got my attention, because I wanted to get a picture and I didn't have a camera. I said hello to him and after spending an hour or so on the look-out area, we hiked back down the peak and the man was still there and seemed to be waiting beside his car. I approached him and struck up a conversation with him in hopes of a photo," Trexler said.

The man told him, "I'm glad to see you're involved in church work, now."

What the man said didn't instantly register in his mind. It was starting to get dark and he had some trepidation about driving three hours back down the dark meandering mountain road.

The man seemed to sense his fear and told him, "Why don't you follow us down the mountain?" His wife was with him in the car.

"As I followed his car down the mountain, I felt so much peace following those taillights down that mountain. Every time he braked, those lights would brighten and I knew there was another turn up ahead. As I followed his car, it came to me! The man in the car in front of me said, 'I'm glad to see you're involved with church work, now.' I had been a rebellious pastor's son who strayed from my faith and my calling and he spoke as if he knew that," Trexler said.

"How would a stranger know I'm involved in church work now?" he asked himself. At that time, he was going through the struggle of answering the call of God to serve the people.

After coming down the mountain, Trexler decided to take another road and leave the car that he was following.

An hour later, he and his wife pulled into a restaurant. To their amazement, they once again saw seated on a table the man and his wife whom they met earlier and who helped them drive down the mountain.

Trexler said they all sat down and ate dinner and talked about the goodness of God.

Trexler said this experience reminded him of the verse in Hebrews 13:2 (NLT), which says, "Don't forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realising it."

He said he believes he and his wife experienced an angelic visitation that night as that man "served us, protected and watched over us."
