Kirkliston Community Church near Edinburgh will be hosting a new arts festival over two weekends next month.

Connected promises a packed line-up of critically acclaimed artists in the fields of folk, blues, traditional Scottish and folk-pop, starting with Steph Macleod to open the festival on August 16.

Fresh from their Glastonbury set, folk Chasing Owls will close the festival on August 24.

Other artists performing during the festival are Emily Smith and Gareth Davies-Jones.

In addition to music, local artist Sarah Stewart will be showing specially commissioned work on the theme of being connected.

"We have been running our acoustic cafe with artist like Yvonne Lyon and Cathy Burton and realised there was an appetite for the arts locally," says festival director Clive Parnell.

"We want to put on this festival to serve the local community but also be a resource for others around Scotland and maybe beyond. We are massively excited about the line up and the high calibre of artists we have been able to book. We can't wait for people to be part of Connected."

He added: "It is vital that the local church values the arts and we want to see the local church being able to offer high quality arts that lead to people being connected in conversation about life, hope, faith and the love of God."
