A Sudanese bishop has called upon African political leaders to end the humanitarian crisis in Sudan's South Kordofan and Blue Nile states.

The African Union Peace and Security Council is meeting in Addis Ababa to discuss Sudan on Friday.

Bishop Andudu Adam Elnail was part of a panel of civic leaders calling upon African heads of state to work on a solution to the conflict in Southern Kordofan and Blue Nile.

The panel members are calling upon the AU to establish a full commission of inquiry under African leadership to assess the situation on the ground.

They said the meeting would be a test of the AU's "credibility" as they highlighted the importance of a resolution for wider regional security.

Bishop Andudu, of Kadugli in South Kordofan, urged the AU not to miss the opportunity to address the conflict .

"This is a war of horror where children are dying every day," he said.

"There are no vaccinations, medicine, there is nothing."
