The Bible contains all the wisdom we need to live a holy, God-pleasing life on earth.

Many of us, however, fail to realize just how exciting and entertaining its pages really are - and that includes us seasoned Christians!

Did you know that the Bible is more fascinating than any encyclopedia, more exciting than a paperback novel, more intriguing than the Guinness book of records, and more helpful than any self-help book in your friendly neighborhood bookstore?

Sadly, many of us just don't realize how beautiful and priceless a treasure trove the Bible really is.

Enjoying God's Word

This article is meant to help you, dear reader, enjoy God's Word. All of us should read it, but many don't. Sadly, of the many who read it, some will feel bored reading it.

To help you perk yourself up while getting bored when reading the Bible, here are a few things you can do:

1) Pray to God to help you read and understand what He says

The Lord Jesus Himself said that the Holy Spirit will guide us into all truth:

"However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come." (John 16:13)

Some might lose the drive to read because they find some parts of Scripture difficult to understand. The Holy Spirit can help with that, because He guides us into all truth and opens our eyes and ears to God's truths as written in the Word.

2) Study the Word of God deeply

Some parts of the Bible contain lists of names and places. Some also contain long lists of commands and regulations. While breezing through these lists might not sound very enjoyable, there's a purpose as to why they are included in the Word.

Studying them will greatly enrich our knowledge, not to mention spark deeper interest in God's Word.

Here's a trivia for you: did you know that Barnabas, the man who encouraged the early church to accept Paul (see Acts 9:27), had a different name?

Acts 4:36 tells us that his real name is Joses. He was called Barnabas because this moniker meant "son of encouragement," likely because he was a helpful guy who sold a piece of land and donated it to the church.

If that helped spark your interest in Barnabas, I hope you decide to look into more names such as Hadassah, Azariah, and Immanuel.

3) Obey it

Friends, when looking for a way to perk yourself up as your read the Word, there's no better way than to obey it. Obedience to God's Word brings a result that no other thing can ever bring:

"Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him."" (John 14:23)

"But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does." (James 1:22-25)
