Billy Graham cites worst sin people can commit

God does not view sin the same way man does. These days there are some sins that some people consider acceptable such as abortion and homosexuality, but God does not think that way.

"In God's eyes all sin is equally serious, because all sin is an act of rebellion against God," Graham explains in his advice column for The Kansas City Star. "This includes not only doing wrong, but also failing to do right. God also sees our hearts, and he knows the sins of greed and jealousy and selfishness that lurk there."

He then quotes the Bible verse Hebrews 4:13: "Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account."

However, civilised society does not view sins equally, and consider some things as far more deplorable than others. Graham says murder, for example, is seen as far more serious than lying.

But for God, the worst sin people can commit is "deliberately rejecting God and refusing the gift He freely offers us of salvation in Jesus Christ." Graham says this act is considered "more terrible than any other."

"Jesus said this is the only sin that God cannot forgive, because we are rejecting the Holy Spirit's witness about Jesus, and claiming the Holy Spirit is telling a lie. (Mark 3:28-29)," he explains.

Graham reminds people not to trust in their own perceived goodness and salvation because these will never be good enough to enter heaven. Only Jesus can provide people with real salvation. The evangelist is strongly urging people to seek His forgiveness for all of their sins.

"Commit your life to Jesus Christ and trust Him alone for your salvation. Our sin is great, but God's grace is greater. Jesus said, 'For my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the son and believes in him shall have eternal life' (John 6:40)," says Graham.
